Over half the population of the world lives under governments that restrict the entry of foreign religious workers. Although missionaries are not welcome, people with nation building skills, such as English teachers, are welcomed. For approximately 60 nations in the world, being a skilled worker is the major means of gaining entry. For 33 nations, it is the only means of entry.
Whether or not you have training in this area, TESOL is a course that will equip you with skills that can open many doors of opportunity in restricted access nations, and among our many multicultural neighbors.
Program
The program is from 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday, comprising more than 100 hours of lectures and small group presentations. This will include oral and written assignments and assessment. Weekday evenings will be used for Practicum, the section of the course that includes hands-on experience with 26 hours of realistic on-the-job practice teaching with English-language students from a variety of nations.
Course Content
The course content is designed to give you the necessary skills to begin teaching English straight away.
The four-week intensive course includes such topics as:
Biblical principles for language training
Linguistics
Theories and styles of learning
Cross-cultural orientation
Classroom skills
Syllabus and curriculum design
Integrating language skills
Test and evaluation

Prerequisites
To participate in TESOL, you must have completed high school or be at least 18 years old.
Accreditation
Four (4) semester equivalent credits will be earned upon successful completion of TESOL (HMT 147). These credits may be applied to a U of N degree program or transferred to other participating colleges or universities.
We also give a certification through a partnership with the Sea English Academy of Australia which has no affiliation with YWAM or any Christian organization. Our TESOL instructor(s) is certificated through SEA and this certification is included in the cost of the course. Secular certification is required to teach English in certain nations.
