Summer of Sports (SOS) is an eight week outreach program that uses soccer and basketball as tools to share the gospel. Athletes are trained physically as well as spiritually, then released to use their skills in an outreach setting. The program includes three weeks of training followed by a four week overseas outreach and one week of debriefing.
Lecture Phase
During your first three weeks here in Lakeside, mornings are spent in worship and lecture with the Summer of Dance and Musicians Summer of Service programs learning about cross-cultural evangelism, prayer and intercession, the father heart of God, public speaking, identity in Christ, and other powerful topics. Your afternoons are spent in team practices, working hard and getting to know each other. When all is said and done, your fellow athletes will be some of your best friends!
Outreach Phase
After three weeks of lecture, athletes suit up for a four week overseas outreach. Some typical SOS outreach activities include: facilitating sports camps, competition with local athletes, serving churches and ministries in practical ways, and friendship evangelism. Athletes will be challenged to share their values in the game, as well as their faith in words.
The team will return to Lakeside for one week of debriefing.
