Overview

The Summer of Dance (SOD) is a nine-week intensive dance outreach program. Dancers are discipled spiritually as they are equipped and then released to use their gifts in missions. The course includes four weeks of training and rehearsal followed by a four week overseas outreach and one week of debriefing.

Details

Lecture Phase
During the course of the 4 week lecture phase dancers will be challenged and encouraged both spiritually and physically. Morning sessions are spent in worship and lectures with the Summer of Sports (SOS) and Musicians Summer of Service (MSOS). Speakers will challenge and inspire dancers, addressing such topics as Performing Arts in Missions, Identity in Christ, and Evangelism. Afternoon sessions are devoted to dance class, rehearsal, and outreach preparation. Dancers are encouraged to worship God with their gifts as they train with quality teachers and choreographers preparing them to use those gifts cross-culturally for the advancement of God's kingdom. The type and style of dance is determined by the individual choreographers. Typical styles taught are jazz, modern and hip-hop.
Additional activities throughout the week include team intercession times, small groups, and an array of fun group events such as hiking at Glacier National Park, a scavenger hunt, bonfires, barbecue and swimming at Whitefish Lake and an exciting whitewater rafting adventure! Much time is spent building relationships with one another often resulting in life-long friendships!

Outreach Phase
After completing four weeks of rehearsals and training, dancers team up with SOS and MSOS for four weeks of overseas outreach. No two outreaches ever look the same. The most exciting part of the outreach portion of SOD is seeing God open unexpected doors for dancers to share their faith. Some typical SOD outreach activities include: dance performances in a variety of different venues(on the street, in schools, hospitals, orphanages, malls and churches), teaching dance workshops to children, teens and adults, serving local churches and ministries in practical ways, and friendship evangelism. Dancers will share their faith through dance as well as through sharing their personal testimonies. They are encouraged in missions as they step out and use their gifts for the advancement of God's kingdom. The team will return to Lakeside for one week of debriefing.
Outreach location is TBA.
